*NEW* Feature Friday - Culture Vulture 1st of February

New Feature Friday!
Featuring Culture Vulture

This week's Feature Friday is focusing on a very kitsch and fun business that I came across, Culture Vulture! They are based within their own shop in Leeds, UK, and also have a awesome website which is very retro and quirky.

From first visiting the website I was overwhelmed by the fun punky layout; more of a pop art inspired theme which already got myself as a viewer very drawn to. Culture Vulture have wonderful items from candy to clothes, gifts to jewellery all with of course a kitsch and unique style to them!

I was so thrilled to feature them for you, with their variety of products there is definitely something for everyone.

Interview with Carol l Owner of Culture Vulture

1) What has been your key inspiration to your current career?
I have always been interested in art and pop culture and I have never liked things that were mass market or mainstream. A big turning point for me was years ago when I first went to New York. It was like a wonderland of creativity. Going there changed me and I saw that it is possible to live your life the way you want to. By starting Culture Vulture I have kind of created my own job and I love it.

2) What do you enjoy the most about your job?
I can shape the direction we go in so I have a lot more freedom and independence than I would working for someone else. Every day is challenging and exciting. Culture Vulture changes all of the time so my job is never boring. For example, our product range changes constantly so we always have something new and interesting coming in. I like opening parcels!

3) To date, what has been your 'proudest' moment?
We are proud to still be trading as an independent. It takes a lot of hard work and you have to offer great customer service and keep it unique. I guess I am proud of Culture Vulture as it is right now as I think it is the best it has ever been and we keep on pushing to take the whole thing further. We get a lot of good feedback from customers and that makes me feel proud.

4) Where do you see yourself in the future?
A customer suggested we should open an "Emporium" or a huge version of our shop. That would be fun. We have our own clothing and jewellery ranges and that is an area we will be developing. My own personal ambition is to have Damien Hirst come and work with us to create an installation in our shop. I can dream!

5) What tips/advice would you give to someone who wants to go down the same career path as yourself?
You need to be very self-motivated and prepared to work extremely hard. You need a strong idea of what you are trying to do. Test it out in a small way first before committing time and money to a big project and always listen to your customers - they know what they want. Go for it!

6) Which would you say is your favourite item off your website at the moment?
I think it has to be the plush pug right now as he is new. We have adopted one for the shop and he has been getting about already as you can see from the pics on the site!
